They don't teach boys this kind of stuff!!

So Tikvah is now into wanting braids in her hair. Here's my first ever attempt. It actually held for most of the day, just some hair on both sides of her face came out. (of the braid, not out from all her hair! I didn't pull that tight!)

One of the older girls in the shul did a great job braiding her hair last week. Took about a half hour to do though. She actually made three separate braids, then braided those together. I don't think I have the patience for something like that.

Ahava seems to have inherited my curly hair. (drives me nuts! I think it was Rita Rudner who joked about wanting to iron her curly hair) I don't know if braids will ever be in the cards for her.

So anyone know of some good websites or other places where I can learn to do a better, neater job of a braid?

I used to do my daughters' hair when they were little. Made it up as I went along, like braiding hallah.

I found a good book back then (20 years ago). Spiral bound and came with some bows and clips for hair, as well. The same press published other how to books that came with appropriate items. Now what was the name...?

Orieyenta - Thanks. I think the hair color comes mostly from my mom's side of the family. My female cousins have red hair, as do their daughters. My brother and I (and my wife for that matter) have dark brown, almost black hair. (although mine is becoming more gray) I'm looking forward to blog posts on your wedding!! Hope it's a great day!

Mordechai, I remember there used to be a series, "The Klutz Guide to..." which would include the item (for example, a harmonica, balls for juggling, etc.) Could that have been it? I was looking around yesterday for something like this, but didn't see it. I think the Klutz guides are long gone. Now it's Idiots and Dummies. (rolling eyes) My wife suggested I look around YouTube for some videos.

JDMD, I just can't recall. I looked where we still have some kid's stuff (my wife anticipating becomeing a savta one day), but I don't see it in there. But it was very much like the Klutz Guides to...

I also try to braid my daughters hair but she hates when we touch it (She's almost 3).

Yeah, nice hair color.

Curly hair can be braided and curly hair is great! I hated mine growing up, but started to love it around 10th grade. Key things to remember: good conditioner and good hair gook.

I wish I could help. My mom and sisters do amazing braids. My mom can do a french braid in about 1 minute. My sister can do microbraids with extensions (about 300 braids on the head I think) in about 10 hours. Every woman in my family can do cornrows (the braids attached to the scalp).

I can braid, but much more slowly. I wish the Jewish community had a tolerance to putting your children's hair in dreadlocks :-D
